FAMILY AFFAIR is a revealing documentary series that explores the contemporary experiences, ideologies, generational themes, and social morays of the African-American community.  Based upon the book by journalist and best-selling author, Gil Robertson, IV, this program offers a unique platform for the Black community to engage its diverse voices in an intimate setting – without pretense or apology.  The first installment of this six-part series, Part I: Our Relationships, examines the types of relationships that have served as the building blocks of the community.

SYNOPSIS:
Part I: Our Relationships
, will focus on the four relationship types that have served as the foundation of the African-American community, while referencing the underlying issues that are affecting each area’s sustained growth:

Love Relationships
Root Issues: Trust, Commitment, Communication, Romance

Family Unit
Root Issues: Divorce, Responsibility, Secrets, Communication

Community Connections
Root Issues: Identity, I/Me/Mine, Envy, Classism

Self-Love
Root Issues: Racism, Beauty Images, Self-Esteem, Spirituality

TV FORMAT:
This 60-min episode will be edited to four, 12-minute segments reflecting each of the relationship types.  Unlike town hall discussions which are typically broad in their focus, an intimate, talk-show style format will be applied.  For each topical area, everyday people will share their individual stories, with experts, prominent voices, and the studio audience weighing in on those experiences, as well as providing their own viewpoints and analysis.
